Make Matt’s Movie

It’s Disco Time!

So Ant Timpson – the brains behind the 48hr Film Festival – has got a new project where one lucky team of filmmakers will get 100k to make a feature film…

…and our buddy Matt Mulholland has got an entry in which you can check it out here

I read an early version of his script and like all of Matt’s stuff it’s very non-pc, low-brow and hella-hella funny.

Facebook and Twitter voting counts towards the final decision so head on over to makemymovie.co.nz and check out Matt’s entry and if you like his stuff check out his website over here .

And keep your eyes peeled here, we’ll be revealing our entries in the next few days…

Mike

p.s. if you haven’t seen it already you can have a look at the music video that we make for him a while back here.

Rage

Our friend and sometime agony aunt, Danny Mulheron has directed this weeks Sunday Theatre movie, ‘Rage’.

Set around the 1981 Springbok Tour to NZ, it tells the tale of the time from both the police and protesters point of views.

Danny Mulheron - Sunday Theatre movie Rage

Sunday September 4 at 8.30pm on TV ONE. Should be a good watch.

Zeitgeist: Moving Forward

Watched this online the other night – well worth a watch. Challenging material, but essential viewing for anyone interested in the bigger picture…

Cool New Tech

Just started shooting a little experimental short with Gaz the other day. Since the short uses a lot of 1st Person perspective shots I ended up buying a new camera to shoot it on. It’s a camera that takes the saying, “size doesn’t matter’ to great (or tiny?) lengths. Check it out…

It’s from a company called Go Pro who deal in cameras for extreme sports. Despite being smaller than most digital stills cameras, it shoots up to 1080P (and stills), comes with a waterproof housing and is bompproof…apparently (but I’ve yet to test this…anyone have any spare C4?). The one I bought had a nifty head mount, so I can strap it to my head and get my 1st Person POV’s, and because it’s so small you only look like sort of a munter, rather than a complete one….

…well maybe you still look like a complete munter, but anyway, last Saturday, I dressed Gaz up in all black and had him chase me around some woods in Newtown, not looking dodgy at all (it was Newtown after all).

Coolest thing about these cameras, apart from the price (450-500 bucks), is that if you buy 2 of them you can get a 3D camera rig that pops them together for $200!

Pretty awesome…Santa, hope you’re listening :)

I Started Dropping…

So I have finally started shooting a little short I wrote an age ago, called ‘Drop’, using a premise that I’ve also been writing a feature about. It’s a bit of a visual experiment for another larger project that I’m hoping to make. I’m wanting to go a similar path as ‘A Scanner Darkly’ and rotoscope after it has been shot. It’s a little horror number, which will hopefully be a equal parts strange and creepy.

Will do my best to post some regular updates on the progress, shot most of the opening scene the other day with Gazza, was good fun having a play with my new camera.

Leaving on a jet plane

I head to the USA for an adventure in just over a week, and am emailing production companies and agencies with the hope of meeting some people and getting a taste of the film world over there. Both New York and LA are on the agenda, and it would be great to meet film makers and people in the industry. I haven’t been to the States since Flatmates Wanted played in New York in 2004 – looking forward to being back!

There’s something behind the walls…

Hypnagogia (the transitional state between wakefulness and sleep) – is the title of my latest short film project. We shot the film in an evening in July, with lead actor Alex Greig returning to do voice-over the following week. I have just completed the editing, along with the sound design for the film.

Alex has been working as an actor for a number of years and has an impressive CV – you can see some examples of his work at:

http://www.alexgreig.co.nz

Hypnagogia will be entered into film festivals upon completion. Watch this space.
