Synopsis: In 2004, two Wellington filmmakers - Gary Davies and Mike Hohaia - had their debut feature film, Flatmates Wanted selected for the World's Largest Independent Film Festival.

By the skin of their teeth, Gary and Mike make it to New York, but find when they arrive that things are quite different to what they had originally envisioned. But they adapt quickly and set out to document not only their experiences, but those of other filmmakers who have come from around the world.

The audience is taken on a journey behind-the-scenes, to the less-glitzy side of film festivals. They see both sides of a film festival, from the organisers to the participants, and everything in between.

'This Is Not Cannes...' is an eye-opening look into the world of independent filmmaking.
